NYPD Blue ran for 12 seasons between 1993 and 2005 on ABC. While bringing back old, popular series as either reboots or revivals is starting to become old hat, sequels to popular series isn’t so prevalent as of yet. That may change though if ABC’s sequel to NYPD Blue finds itself perched atop the ratings, and in order to make an attempt to do so, they are bringing back some familiar faces.
The series sequel is set to follow the story of Andy Sipowicz’s (Dennis Franz) son Theo. If you recall Sipowicz was the main character throughout all 12 seasons of the series. For the sequel, Sipowicz is murdered, and his son investigates it as he tries to become a detective in the 15th squad. Joining him will be original series star Kim Delaney, who played Det. Diane Russell starting in season 2 up to season 8. Also joining the series is Bill Brochtrup, who played administrative assistant John Irvin starting in Season 2. It was previously announced that Alona Tal is set to be the star of the series, playing Detective Nicole Lazarus.
The NYPD sequel is written by the original series writers Matt Olmstead and Nick Wootton, while the son of NYPD Blue co-creator Steven Bochco, Jesse Bochco, will direct and executive produce.
NYPD Blue saw several cast members come and go throughout the years, and it will be curious to see if any of them return for the sequel, even in a guest role capacity. Along with Franz and Delaney, David Caruso, James McDaniel, Amy Brenneman, Nicholas Turturro, Gordon Clapp, Jimmy Smits and Henry Simmons also starred in the show at some point.
Schitt’s Creek To End After Season 6
One of CBC’s biggest hits in recent years is Schitt’s Creek, and now it’s been announced that it will be coming to an end. Father-and-son co-creators Eugene Levy and Daniel Levy have released a statement today stating the series will be ending after season 6 airs next year.
In the letter appearing on Daniel Levy’s social media accounts, the Levy’s stated they had made the decision to end the show after season six. They went on to say “We are so grateful to have been given the time and creative freedom to tell this story in its totality, concluding with a final chapter that we had envisioned from the very beginning. It’s not lost on us what a rare privilege it is in this industry to get to decide when your show should take its final bow.”
The Levy’s also took time to thank their fans, and that they are looking forward to shooting the final episodes. The 14 final episodes are due to begin airing in January 2020 on CBC in Canada and Pop TV in the U.S.
Schitt’s Creek stars both of the Levy’s, along with Catherine O’Hara and Annie Murphy. They play a family who lost all their money, and are forced to relocate to a small town they’d bought as a joke years before. The show has won several Canadian Screen Awards, and was even up for a Critics’ Choice award last January. There is a sold-out live tour as well, which has been highly successful.
Watch The Teaser Trailer For Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
After spending his last two films in the wild west, Quentin Tarantino has moved forward to the 1960s for his latest film, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. The film has been many years in the making, and finally a trailer has arrived.
Tarantino’s ninth film has an all-star cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie. It tells the story of a former TV Western star and his stunt double, who try to give their careers a rebirth in the late 1960’s, but discover that Hollywood has changed. While the main story is fiction, there are some real-life characters in the film, including Charles Manson, Sharon Tate and Steve McQueen, who interact with the story.
Luke Perry, Damian Lewis, Dakota Fanning, Bruce Dern, Emile Hirsch, Timothy Olyphant and Kurt Russell also star in the film.
Tarantino wrote, directed and produced the film, and is planning on debuting it at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood gets its wide release on July 26.
Two New Characters Exiting Star Trek: Discovery At The End Of Season 2
Star Trek: Discovery has turned into quite the hit for CBS All Access, and for the second season several new additions were made to the cast. Among those added were Anson Mount and Rebecca Romijn, who played classic Trek characters Captain Christopher Pike of the USS Enterprise and the member of his crew Number One. While it wasn’t known going in what the plans were for the characters for later seasons, it’s now been let out that neither will be moving beyond season two.
Deadline is reporting that their sources told them that both Mount and Romijn has one year deals, and were only signed to be part of the season 2 story arc. The plans were to sync up Discovery with the original Star Trek by the end of the season. Of course if plans are to keep with the original Trek cannon, that means Mount’s character Pike may be heading towards a tragic ending. In the original series Pike was only captain of the Enterprise for the pilot episode, and eventually ends up paralyzed, disfigured and mute. In the recent movies Pike was killed in the second film by Kahn, although that film series takes place in a different universe and doesn’t match up to any of the previous films or TV shows that came before it. This could also mean that Captain Kirk may make an appearance in season 3.
Mount’s time on the show hasn’t been the easiest, considering he was involved in a physical altercation with one of the directors in August of last year during the filming of an episode. At the time the incident was reviewed by CBS HR and they determined that the incident was just an accident as the actor was preparing for an upcoming scene and made contact with the director before cameras started rolling.
