It’s been close to a decade that Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio have been working to get an adaptation of Erik Larson’s “Devil in the White City” to the big screen, and now it looks as if the project will be developed as a project for TV instead of the big screen. Hulu announced yesterday that they’ve teamed up with Scorsese and DiCaprio (who will now executive produce) to make it finally happen.
The Devil in the White City tells two stories, one being the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893, and the other of serial killer H.H. Holmes and his “Murder Castle” where he seduced, tortured and mutilated young women. The two stories are interlinked by their location and time lines, and present a chilling side of American history. DiCaprio originally bought the rights to the 2003 book back in 2010, and in 2015 he signed on to play Holmes, while bringing on Scorsese to direct. The film never seemed to move beyond that though, and has stayed in development hell since then.
Hulu’s announcement didn’t say where DiCaprio would still be starring in the series, or if Scorsese was still intending to direct the project, but at least their names are still attached to the project.
Jason Momoa To Join Dune Reboot
Dune is shaping up to be the next big franchise, and now the huge all-star cast is set to be getting even bigger.
Aquaman star Jason Momoa is in final negotiations to join the Denis Villeneuve led science-fiction film. The hulking actor will portray Duncan Idaho, a swordmaster in the house of Atreides. The cast already includes Timothee Chalamet, Javier Bardem, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, Oscar Isaac, and Zendaya. It seems like everyday another big name is added the cast, which raises expectations even further.
Dune is the first novel in a series of novels by Frank Herbert. Originally published in 1965, the book is set in the distant future, and follows the story of Paul Atreides. His family controls the planet Arrakis, which is home to a valuable resource, and after his family is betrayed by other noble families who want the resources for their own, Atreides leads a rebellions to reclaim what is his. If the film is successful, there are five other Herbert novels that could be adapted as well.
Momoa is currently filming the Apple sci-fi series See, and can still be seen in the big screen in Aquaman and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.

Katy Perry Releases New Single / Video “365” With Zedd
With Valentine’s Day 2019 well on its way, Katy Perry and Zedd have released a new single and video called 365 that begs the question, can AI learn to love?
In the video Perry plays a Stepford-style robot who falls in love with a human male played by Zedd. The announcement says “The video tells the poignant story of an android Katy Perry, who yearns to be human, as she attempts to make a genuine connection with Zedd.” Perry herself tweeted out this morning “Does it know the difference between LOVE and OBSESSION?” as she tried to hype the video online.
Perry and Zedd wrote the song together, with Zedd producing. Perry was also responsible for conceptualizing the video directed by Warren Fu. Zedd said that the idea for the collaboration started to take shape last summer while they were on tour together in Australia. Perry on the other hand said she was “happy to collaborate” with Zedd as well.
365 is the first single by both artists this year, and Perry’s first since the release of her 2017 album Witness. Zedd has worked recently with Shawn Mendes, Elley Duhé, and Maren Morris and Grey.
First Aladdin Trailer Drops
While pictures had been released of Disney’s live action Aladdin movie, including those of Will Smith’s Genie, there were a lot of questions surrounding the film. The biggest question of course is would the Genie be blue like he was in the animated feature, considering the photos that had come out didn’t have him in the familiar hue. Smith had stated that his character would be, but you never know. Now though, with the release of the first trailer, at least some of those questions have been answered, and chief among them is yes, the Genie is indeed blue.
The Guy Ritchie directed film’s trailer only shows a brief look at the movie, it was after all released on TV during the Grammy Awards, but it has peeked our curiousity. In it you see Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Jasmine. We also get to see Marwan Kenzari playing a picture pefect Jafar, who sends Aladdin in to retrieve the magic lamp. Of course it was Smith’s Genie everyone is interested in, who appears near the end of the trailer.
Smith has stated from the beginning that playing the Genie was difficult. After all, Robin Williams made the role his own in the animated feature, and walking in the late comedian’s footsteps wasn’t easy. It appears though that Smith might just be up to the task, but the jury is still out on it considering the trailer only shows a brief clip of him.
Aladdin is the latest Disney feature to receive the live-action treatment, and the first of two to be released this year. The animated film was the highest grossing film of 1992, and won two Oscars and a Grammy. The live action feature is due to hit theatres on May 24.
