Disney Streaming Service Set To Launch This Fall

Disney announced yesterday that they will launch their streaming service, Disney Plus, on November 12, starting with the U.S., Canada and the Netherlands, with Australia and New Zealand coming a week later. The Disney Plus app will be available on Apple, Google, Microsoft, Roku and Sony, with more distributors set for the near future. Disney also announced that the service will be available in all major markets within the first two years, but didn’t give any specifics on when it can be expected elsewhere.

Disney Plus will be the dedicated streaming home for movies and TV shows from all of their properties, including Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and more. What that means of course is that other services that currently stream their products will stop showing them within the next couple of years. Any of their films released in 2019 will only be available on it as well. Disney also has several original programs set to air, including the Star Wars series The Mandalorian, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, The World According to Jeff Goldblum, Encore! and all of the recently announced Marvel TV shows such as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision and Loki. It’s not just original programming that will fill their TV slots either, as classic shows in their catalog, such as The Simpsons, will be on it as well.

As for the cost, in the U.S. it will be $6.99 a month, while in Canada it will be $8.99. Consumers can subscribe directly through the apps, or on Disney Plus’ website.

Zoe Kravitz Set To Star As Catwoman in The Batman

One of the stars of Big Little Lies, Zoe Kravitz, has signed on to play Catwoman in the upcoming The Batman film alongside Robert Pattinson. At this point it’s not known if she will play the main antagonist, or if she will be the love interest of Batman. In the comics, and the films, Catwoman has played both roles.

Rumour has it that over the last few weeks the role has come down to Joker’s Zazie Beetz, Eiza Gonzalez of Baby Driver, Oscar winner Alicia Vikander and Kravitz. Kravitz managed to snag the roll, even though there is a little concern with her scheduling since she is due to start filming the next installment of Fantastic Beasts soon.

Filming for The Batman is expected to start sometime soon, either this fall or early in 2020, so the movie will be ready for it’s June 25, 2021 release date.

As much as fans are excited for the new Batman film, Aquaman star Jason Mamoa is even more so. He is of course the stepfather of Kravitz, and shortly after the news broke he took to social media to let everyone know how proud he is of her.

“I’m so proud of u zozo bear. On and off screen OHANA,” he wrote on Instagram. “DC WB ohana Lola and Wolfies big sister is CAT WOMAN. Unbelievable so freaking stoked. Your going to have so much fun Aloha P bear.”

Kravitz responded to the post, saying  “LOVE YOU PAPABEAR! love that aquaman and catwomen spend the holidays together from now on.”

Unfortunately odds of a crossover between the two characters is slim. Even though they are both DC comics properties, The Batman film is said to be separate the most current DC Films.

Drew Barrymore To Host A Daytime Talk Show

Back in August Drew Barrymore shot a pilot for a daytime television talk show, but none of the major networks were biting to pick it up. That all changed yesterday though when CBS Television Distribution made it official, they would air and produce Barrymore’s show starting in Fall 2020.

In a released statement Barrymore said “It is beyond my wildest dreams to have this opportunity for a daily talk show. I’m truly thrilled and honored to be creating this show with CBS.”

Barrymore of course was introduced at a very young age when she was one of the stars of E.T., and since then she has gone on to star in such films as The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, Never Been Kissed, Ever After and more. She also has some television credits to her name as well, including the Netflix series Santa Clarita Diet, Family Guy, and The World’s Best talent competition on which she served as a judge.

Steve LoCascio, chief operating and financial officer of CBS Global Distribution Group, said in a statement that “Drew is a huge star and a breath of fresh air — her show will energize any station’s lineup.”

At this point very little else is known about the new show, including what format it will take, but it was announced that Barrymore will also be an executive-producer for it.
